The FDA has released certain guidelines for tuna consumption for pregnant women and if you are currently with child it will be important to make sure that you take a careful look at what these guidelines are so you can protect your unborn child from any harm later on. Pregnant women can eat up to 12 ounces of canned light tuna each week or any other type of fish that does not have a significant amount of mercury in it.
Some of the different types of fish that are low in mercury include salmon, catfish, and shrimp. Those women who are pregnant can also eat up to 6 ounces of locally caught fish and 6 ounces of white albacore tuna, although it does have more mercury in it than light tuna does. Any women that are pregnant should know which types of fish to avoid as well, including tilefish, king mackerel, shark, and swordfish.
