Is Watermelon High In Carbs?

The carbs which are found in watermelon can be slightly confusing for those who are not familiar with the way it works. A half cup of diced watermelon has around 5.5 grams of carbohydrates in it and a single wedge of watermelon has 22 grams of carbohydrates. Watermelons have what is referred to as “complex carbs” with a number of benefits that are important to look at, especially for those who want to stay as healthy as possible and/or lose weight.

With a total of around 12 grams of carbs per cup, watermelons are certainly a healthy food to eat, although they do contain quite a bit of natural sugar in them. This particular fruit has a glycemic index of 72 and the total number of carbs in watermelon is extremely low, especially when compared to other fruits. One would have to eat a very large amount of watermelon in order to consume a significant amount of carbs.

This fruit is primarily made up of water and perfect for those who are trying to lose as much weight as possible because they contain complex carbs as opposed to simple carbs which actually contribute to weight gain.
