Is Spinach In The Lettuce Family?

Spinach is classified as being in the Amaranthaceae family and is considered to be an edible flowering plant which is native to the southwestern Asia area. It is considered to be an annual plant which is very rarely biennial however it still does happen. This plant can grow up to a height of 30cm and it can even survive over the winter in temperate regions.

The flowers which form on this particular plant are yellowish green and up to 4mm in diameter. Spinach is considered to be a highly versatile vegetable as far as its uses go, used both for culinary purposes in a number of dishes as well as for medicinal purposes.
