Is Salmon Bad If It Smells Fishy?

There are certain signs that you will want to watch out for in order to tell whether or not your salmon has gone bad. A very mild fishy smell is perfectly acceptable but if it has a noticeable malodor you may want to think about throwing it off. Discoloration of the flesh is another important thing to watch out for because it most likely indicates that the fish has gone bad and is no longer edible.

The last thing you will want to do is eat rancid fish. You will also want to look at the eyes of salmon you bring home from the supermarket; they should look bright and clear with no cloudiness whatsoever. The texture of the fish itself should be fairly firm and not slimy whatsoever. If you have noticed any of these things about the salmon you have at home, you should avoid eating it altogether. Salmon that has become rancid and is not longer edible can cause food poisoning and other serious health problems.
