How Should Mayonnaise Be Stored?

A lot of people hold the misconception that if mayonnaise is stored outside of the refrigerator that bacteria will begin to grow on it, though this usually is not the case unless it has been sitting around for a very long time. When you look at the expiration date on the jar of mayonnaise that you get from the supermarket you will notice that it will not go bad for a very long time.

Although it is true that you can store mayonnaise any way you want to, it might be a good idea to put it in the refrigerator as opposed to one of your kitchen cabinets, just so it will retain all of its flavor and texture. When you keep mayonnaise in a particularly warm place, you risk it breaking down and becoming even oilier than it already is.
