Do Bananas Grow On Trees?

You may have seen bananas growing on rather large plants and assumed that it was a tree. It’s certainly big enough to be a tree!

But what’s the real story? Do bananas grow on trees?

Actually, no they don’t! The plant which bananas grow on is actually the world’s largest perennial herb plant. Reaching 30 feet tall in some cases, these herbs grow from existing roots which can be hundreds of years old.

Technically speaking, this means that bananas are not actually fruits, but berries!
