Can Pears Give You Heartburn?

Heartburn, also known as acid indigestion, is a burning sensation in the chest which is caused by gastric acid making it’s way too far up the esophagus. For the people who suffer from this condition, one of the most effective ways of dealing with it is to be aware of which foods contribute to the condition and avoid them as much as possible.

So what about pears? Can pears give you heartburn?

Actually, pears are more likely to have the opposite effect and give you some relief from heartburn. This is mainly because pears are high in a substance called pectin, which has been shown to be helpful in reducing the symptoms of heartburn. This effect can be seen from either eating whole pears, or from drinking pear juice.
