Can Asparagus Cause Green Stool?

In some cases asparagus can have an effect on the color of one’s stool, causing it to turn a greenish color; this is most likely due to the chlorophyll which is found in leafy green vegetables such as asparagus. Certain foods that have deep darker colors like gelatin can also turn stool various colors depending on which artificial colors were used.

In the case of asparagus it is the chlorophyll which can turn stool green, though this usually only happens when someone consumes a significant amount of it at one time. If you find that your stool has turned green after eating asparagus, it is most likely no reason for concern as it happens to many people who eat this vegetable.
