Cherries are considered to be a “stone fruitâ€, unlike berries which typically have seeds and grow on bushes. Cherries grow on trees and have pits, similar to apricots and peaches.
For a long time now there have been debates as to whether or not the cherry is actually a berry; however it has none of the defining characteristics of a berry.
Though it may look like one to some, it is actually a stone fruit which is part of a completely different family that grows on trees instead of bushes which is the case with berries. Therefore the cherry is not related to the berry in any way.
