Is Spinach A Cruciferous Vegetable?

Spinach is classified as a cruciferous vegetable which means that it belongs to the botanical family of Cruciferae. Some different examples of these vegetables include cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and many others. The very unique taste that these vegetables are well-known for can be attributed to the compounds which are comprised mostly of sulfur and they are called glucosinolates.

These vegetables contain antioxidants that can protect against certain environmental toxins such as second hand tobacco smoke which can be even more unhealthy than the first hand variety. Those who are trying to stay as healthy as possible will definitely want to think about including more cruciferous vegetables in their daily diet, including spinach.
