Strawberries can be grown on a trellis and for this method, soil prep is one of the most important factors. Strawberries will grow bountifully in several types of soil, but your best bet is to use soil that is loose and fertile and which contains lots of organic matter. You also want your soil to be slightly acidic.

Strawberries do best in raised beds or on ridges or slopes because these methods help with drainage. You should avoid planting strawberries where potatoes, tomatoes and sod have recently been grown. And full sunlight is your best bet for a good harvest of big berries. Other produce that does well – even better than strawberries – when grown on a trellis include pole beans, peas, cucumbers and some melons.
